Press Release for September, 2003

Press Release

September 21, 2003

Organization:  SEACAB, Southeastern Arizona Clean and Beautiful

Location:  Graham County, Arizona

Contact person:  Hal Herbert, Public Relations: hherbert@cableone.net

 For immediate release:

A combination of efforts has resulted in the creation of a Board of Directors for Southeastern Arizona Clean and Beautiful (SEACAB).  The board is in the process of seeking non-profit status.  The board is also coordinating the Clean and Beautiful and Adopt-a-Highway activities of the Arizona Department of Transportation, Graham County, the City of Safford and the City of Thatcher. More southeastern towns and counties will be added as the effort expands.

The major effort of the board will be to encourage volunteers to cleanup roadways, streets, highways, and byways throughout the area.  As a part of this effort they will encourage individuals and groups to join existing Adopt-a- Highway programs, apply for signs and obtain training for cleaning and maintaining designated portions of local byways.  SEACAB will also recognize and honor organizations that are doing a good job of maintaining their areas and will encourage others to do so.

One of the first actions of the board was to create a website: www.seacab.org.  The purpose of the website is to generate outside interest, coordinate activities, and share information from the public and interested parties.  The board is sponsoring a Logo Contest for the SEACAB website (see the website for instructions).

The first major activity of SEACAB will be to sponsor a major cleanup effort within Graham County that will be both visible and effective.  The board is in the process of selecting the site and coordinating volunteer help.
